Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about Next Step:

How do I get accepted into the program?

A: The process for acceptance is to submit an application and then schedule an assessment with one of our therapists (either phone or in person). If we both agree that Next Step is a good fit, then you will be scheduled for an intake date or it is possible to be admitted on the same day.  If there is a waiting list, you will be placed on the list after your assessment and scheduled for intake as soon as a bed opens.

How much does it cost?

Most of our services are covered by health insurance, including Medicaid. We also have scholarships available for those without insurance.

Fees can be covered through the Recovery Works program if you are eligible and referred through PACE Indy

Talk with one of our Admissions Counselors if you are concerned about the cost of treatment or have additional questions.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We accept Medicaid, Hoosier Healthwise, and Healthy Indiana Plan for all clinical services. We also accept Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, CareSource, Aetna, Cigna and Managed Health Services (MHS) for all residential treatment services.

Give us a call if your insurance provider is not listed above.

What do I bring with me as a new resident?

Your space is limited to a dresser and small closet space. Bring clothes, personal hygiene items, laundry soap, prescription medication, journals, books, and pictures to make your space feel like home. Bedding is supplied.  All clothing items must be washed and put through the dryer when you arrive for bed bug prevention. If you smoke, you can bring tobacco products, but all Next Step facilities are smoke-free and there are designated smoking areas. There is no food allowed in the bedrooms, so do not bring personal food items.

Is there a maximum length of stay in the residential programs?

The recommended length of stay is 90 days, but you and your therapist will discuss whether you require more or less time in the program. Next Step does offer community housing for those that may require additional time in the Next Step community after treatment.

Can I have visits with my children?

Next Step encourages families to visit on Sundays in our Recovery Café space.  There are limited opportunities for overnight visits and this need is evaluated on a case by case basis.

What if I’m pregnant?

You can enter the Next Step program when you are pregnant.

Do you accept people on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

Yes, we accept clients on a case-by-case basis who are under supervision on M.A.T. through our local Methadone Clinic, our local Suboxone Clinic or our local provider of Vivitrol.

Can I be on prescription medication?

You may bring any medication that is prescribed.  Clients taking any controlled substance or prescribed a benzodiazepine ( e.g Xanax) will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Do I have to be a Christian?

No. We accept anyone of any faith (or no faith). We do require that you be open to the spiritual side of recovery.

Do I have to attend church?

No.  We do offer transportation to local church services, but you are free to attend any church you want.

Am I allowed to leave the facility?

It depends on the level of care you are receiving.

If you enter our Step In program your care will be supervised 24 hours a day and you can only leave the campus in the care of one of client guides in order to pick up medication, attend medical appointments or to pick up supplies at a local store.

In the Step Down program your care will continue to be supervised 24 hours a day, but you can leave the campus for unsupervised time up to 4 hours a day or for employment.

In the Step Out program there is no supervision and you can leave the campus for employment, for recovery related meetings, for visitation with your children or for other activities approved by your care team.

Can my family members be involved in the program?

Yes. In fact we encourage your family members to visit and to participate in groups with you. Addiction affects everyone in the family. However, no one in active addiction is allowed on Next Step properties.
